April Eleventh 

I can hear 
my DNA when 
I talk with my sister
laughing over 
late afternoon 
saki and yellow tail 
still figuring out
mom and dad bullshit

past ten

the stretch of 

my mid-life crisis
has corresponded

to the rise of fascism 
which makes a lot of sense 

when you think about it

Tonight 

the screaming sirens 

in the distance 

the sound of engines revving
a cool breeze blows 

a scent of sage and rock, 

clouds looming low 

when I blew out the candle

last night sitting 

on my patio

burning a candle

listening to music

on my headphones

when I blew out 

the candle

the music on my 

headphones stopped

a cool desert rain

Castor and Pollux with Mars 

make a hockey stick shape

then Procyon shines out in Canis Minor

above me at high noon sits Jupiter 

bright along side Orion the Hunter 

with its cosmic belt

and underneath that 

silver Sirius in Canis Major

serene in the dark
